"Last year, I found myself in the position of inheriting a house full of furniture. My parents had passed away and I had the overhwelming task of cleaning out the house in which they had lived for over 50 years.
As I sorted through the belongings in the house, I realized that there were select pieces of furniture I wanted to keep and to move into my home. However, most of the pieces I wanted to keep were 50+ years old and reflected the wear and tear of having been used for a number of years.
When I started the process of finding someone to restore the furniture, I did research online plus talked with friends. I subsequently went to a Home and Garden Show in downtown Raleigh and saw the booth for Mumford Restoration. I talked with the owner, Bernard Mumford, and set up an appointment for him to come by and look at the furniture.
During the evaluation process, Bernard examined each piece of furniture and recommended a level of service based on the quality and conditon of the piece along with consideration for my desires and for my budget. During this whole period, I found the owner and the employees to be extremely professional, knowledgable and honest. In fact, during the evaluation process, there was a corner bookcase that I was interested in keeping. But after inpecting the quality and condition of the piece, Bernard commented that unless the piece had a lot of sentimental value to me that I would be better off buying a new bookcase!
But thank goodness, the other pieces of furniture I wanted to keep were better prospects.
I've had a number of compliments on the piees of furniture that were restored--a dining room chest, a bedroom suit and a piano. The quality of the workmanship is excellent. And the pieces, with their wonderful memories, are just beautiful. If you have any furniture that you are interested in restoring, I highly recommend that you contact Mumford Restoration."

"The Haywood Hall Committee appreciates your generous contribution to the conservation of six of the antique chairs at Haywood Hall Museum House.
The three reglued and waxed dining chairs, ca. 1800, outshine the others and have received many compliments from visitors to the museum. The Windsor chair now is safe to sit upon. The side chair and gentleman's chair in the parlor have been reglued. And of particular note is the fine repair and reupholstery of the Victorian lady's chair in the parlor - the fabric is perfect and looks just right with the other pieces in the room. So many guests who visited the property over the holidays have remarked upon the fine workmanship on these pieces.
This wonderful contribution has enabled us to keep our museum attractive and our antique furntiure safe. we are grateful to you and are pleased to recommend your restoration services for furnishings and fine arts."

You beautifully restored a window seat for me some years ago. It's actually shown in your website's photo gallery. So, I already know your work is impeccable! Also, I have referred your business to many indivduals over the years. Thanks again for my window seat. I love how you restored it. It's one of my prized possessions now and I can't thank you enough for that. It always garners attention and much praise whenever anyone sees it. And the first thing I do is direct them to your website to look at the before picture *smile*.

I could not be more pleased, as is my family, on the beautiful job you did restoring my Nana's (great-grandmother's) trunk. It traveled with her 102 years ago from Italy to the land of opportunity--America. It made the journey through Ellis Island with Nana. My mother acquired the trunk through her father and as a young girl, it always fascinated me where the trunk came from and all the history and stories it held. My siblings and I asked my mother for the trunk many times as it was just sitting in her basement and two years ago after many years of prodding she finally gave in. I then called you and you gave me back a piece of family history that I proudly display in my home. Nana would be thrilled! Thank you so much!

Just wanted to let you know that my mother-in-law was so thriled! She said it was so much better than she ever thought it could be. I found out tonight that the rocker was a baby gift for her father which means it should be 98 years old this year.
So she will probably be over with a small family table sometime soon that she has been meaning to have refinished.
Thank you so much!

We are very happy with the results. All the furniture looks beautiful & couch, chair very comfortable still. My mother is smiling from above I\'m sure! I was thinking about painting the room & changing the carpet but once the reupholstered furniture arrived, it really added a new spin & now I think those changes are not needed.
Frankly I was quite surprised that the work was completed as scheduled. My past experiences with refinishers in this area have not been as positive.

My initial phone call resulted in a warm welcome and good information which continued on when we brought my much-loved yet age and wear distressed desk chair into Mumford’s for our free estimate. The gentlemen who inspected my chair seemed to like it as much as I do. The end result is lovely work. The chair matched the finish of its desk perfectly. The delivery man was sweet and even gave us a gift bag. Very pleasant experience. Thank you.

The result is perfect. Beautiful, and I am simply amazed you were able to repair it. No matter how difficult of a task I come up with, Mumford’s has been able to tackle it. From kitchen cabinet modifications to repairing my dining room chairs, to repairing a shattered 17th century frame, they’ve done amazing work each time. Thanks!

I went to my Mom’s in Wake Forest this weekend and cannot begin to tell you how beautiful the chair is! It is exactly what I envisioned in terms of the stain color – a warm medium brown with golden tones. In fact, it is so stunning that I have decided it will go splendidly as a “stand alone” in our living room and blend in perfectly with the sofa and other chair we have. I will certainly be in touch once we finally get our home and move in, as I have many, many projects that could use the special Mumford touch.
